...and it begins

Several harried weeks of preparation and it's actually happening...we are here.  We have survived our first trip to India (20+ hours of flying in business class isn't so bad), and are now sitting in our hotel watching the sun come up and the city come to life and it is breathtaking.  The realization that this is our new home is begining to sink in, and we are so happy.  A few notable experiences from our journey so far:
  • Skype is a wonderful thing, and in the Frankfurt airport we saw a woman signing with her friend via video chat.  It was a first hand experience of how connected we can be through the powers of technology, and it felt good to know that those we love will still be very much with us over the next two years.
  • You learn something new everyday.  We learned that a 747 has to be lighter to land than to take off. So, for example, if you have to turn around and make an emergency landing an hour after you take off, you will see fuel flying out of the wings.  The Germans reassured us this is normal.
  • It was nice to have gluten free options the whole way here, and the complimentary wine certainly helped with the sleep (thanks again business class!).
  • We made it, and so did our luggage, with only one 4 hour delay...anyone who knows our travel history, knows that this is a miracle of sorts.
We have taken some pictures, although haven't quite figured out how to get them from the phone/camera to the computer...but we will take lots more and be sure to share them once we can.  Now, time for a little rest before we are off to explore the city...and so it begins...
