Just some fun for you on a Saturday...
1. This week I got a much needed Dosa Lesson from some co-workers. Dosa's are basically delicious rice pancakes, that are prepared a number of different ways (some are stuffed, spiced, plain, etc) and you eat them with all different kinds of deliciousness. Well, I LOVE dosa's, and my team thought I needed some education on what the different varieties are and they also made me a "dosa bucket list" (their words)....this list is all the restaurants we need to go to eat the best in Bangalore...
2. Just last weekend we went to our very first wedding here in India. Needless to say it was quite the experience! We traveled about 6.5 hours in the Innova to Hubli to celebrate Ramesh's engagement and wedding days. In his particular tradition the big engagement celebration is actually the night before the wedding, and is a small affair (only about 250 people). The wedding day is a larger event with about 1500 guests. Each event consisted of lots of prayers and well wishes on the couple, lots of photos, and lots of food. We had a nice time, and of course we dressed up in our Indian finery for the special occasions.
3. I have recently fallen in love with green smoothies...yummmm. Well, thanks to my wonderful mom who spent way too much money to send us vanilla extract (a critical ingredient in my most favorite recipe) all the way from the US, I will be able to enjoy these wonderful smoothies for at least another 2 months. Thanks Mimmy!
4. The last few weeks have been extra hectic for sure, but one of the really fun things we've been doing is planning all the details for our Van Wyk parents to come visit! We are so looking forward to the visit in February and have made loads of travel plans around India. The Golden Triangle and Kerala are the big ones on the list.
5. There is something troublesome for me that I sometimes see here in Bangalore...the sale of stuffed toys. You can find a lot of things for sale on the street here, and toys are no exception, but for some reason just seeing them hanging on the fences is sort of sad and creepy all at the same time for me.
6. Auto's (a.k.a. rickshaws, auto ricks, etc) are a common mode of transport here in India. On my way home from work I saw a brand new auto...apparently when you buy them new there is still some assembly required.
7. Guess who's coming to Bangalore....
