100km in 48hrs? How 'bout 22!

Oh we love adventures, especially when they are for a good cause.

Andi and I found a team this year and so we are going to participate in the Oxfam Trailwalker! The Trailwalker, currently held in 11 countries, is a 100km walk with a team of four in 48hrs and is Oxfam's primary fundraiser. Oxfam, and Oxfam India, is an amazing organization, committed to finding and supporting local solutions to poverty and injustice throughout the world, and the India office is doing some really great things here. We are so excited to do this and to support Oxfam's work, and we are hoping you can help us out.

As you may remember from last year we were desperate to do this then but weren't able to get a team together. One of the benefits of a long-term assignment is that things we missed the first year we can do the second. After a series of random "Did you talk to them?," "I think they might be interested," and "I thought they wanted to do it last year"'s two of Andi's work colleagues asked us to join their team. With great excitement we said yes. We are coming a little late to the party (eek! the walk takes place 24-26 January!) so we are a little nervous about getting the training in, but still, mostly all excitement.

There will be many more blog posts, FB pesterings, and maybe even some e-mail spamming in the next month, but for now, here are the essential details:

100km/Teams of 4/48hrs to raise money for Oxfam India.

OK, so here's what that means:

Beginning 24th January, in a small village just outside Bangalore, we, as a four person team, will have 48 hours to walk 100km (roughly 62 miles) (although our team goal is to finish in 22 hrs!). The trail will take us around the outskirts of Bangalore, passing through small villages, rural areas, farms, and forests. In addition to raising money for Oxfam we will get to see some amazing parts of India that we wouldn't otherwise get to.

But really it's about raising money for Oxfam India. Founded in 1942 in Oxford, Oxfam is now a global organization working to find local solutions to poverty and injustice, to secure the human rights of all, allowing everyone the opportunity to assert their dignity as full global and local citizens with control of their lives and being. Oxfam first started working in India in 1951, during the famine in Bihar, and has done and continues to do some amazing things here. We'll get to more of that later, but for now, let me just end with this:

Oxfam India is an amazing organization doing some amazing things. We are so excited (seriously, did I mention how excited we are?!?!?) to be participating in the Trailwalker this year, raising money for this great organization. And we'd love your support.

PS: Although everything on the donation page is in Rupees, don't worry, the site accepts international credit cards. At the bottom of the Donation Details page just be sure to select the "ICICI (All International donors)" option.

And I don't know if this is happening in the US now or not, but here in India there is almost always a second layer of fraud protection for on-line transactions. What this means is that you will be asked to go to a second verification site before your transaction is completed. We are always redirected to USBank Verified by Visa (that might be different depending on what bank and card you use). This site will ask you for a second input of information to verify you are who you say you are. You can trust it, it's legit (although also a little annoying sometimes).
